Facial Scar Revision

Restore Your Natural Beauty

At Light Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer several treatments to reduce the appearance of facial scars. Dr. Ben Light will choose the treatment that is most appropriate for your needs, based on the shape and severity of the scar. Facial scar revision at our practice in Decatur, Alabama is performed to treat scars that are caused by acne, injuries, surgeries, and other conditions.

FACIAL SCAR REVISION PROCEDURE

The most common type of facial scar revision is performed to improve the appearance of acne scars. Microdermabrasionchemical peels, and topical creams may be used to correct acne scars.  Often the most effective treatment is laser scar reduction.

Our facial plastic surgery center has two state-of-the-art lasers that can be used in these procedures: the Matrix CO2 Fractional Laser and the Whisper NG Erbium YAG Resurfacing Laser. Both lasers use a high-energy light to reduce the scarred surface and stimulate the production of new skin. The type of laser used depends upon the patient’s skin type. The Erbium laser is more appropriate for patients with darker skin. Our laser center is certified by the state of Alabama Board of Nursing.

FACIAL SCAR REVISION BENEFITS

Whether your facial scarring is caused by acne, surgery, or injury, our plastic surgeon and staff can help you enjoy a smooth, healthy-looking complexion. We treat scars that are raised or indented, hard or soft, and red, white, or other colors. In addition to improving your appearance and self-confidence, facial scar revision can reduce the discomfort and soreness caused by acne marks and other scars.

RECOVERY FROM FACIAL SCAR REVISION

The amount of time it takes to recover from facial scar revision depends upon the size of the area treated and the type of procedure performed. Recovery from microdermabrasion and chemical peels may take only several days. Recovery from laser skin resurfacing usually takes at least two weeks. After laser skin resurfacing, the skin needs time to heal and regenerate healthy new cells. Our doctor and staff will provide you with a complete set of guidelines to follow to ensure that you heal as quickly and comfortably as possible.

In addition to medical school and his general surgery residency, Dr. Light has completed a four-year residency in head and neck surgery. He also completed an additional year-long fellowship in facial plastic surgery. He is the only plastic surgeon certified through the American Board of Medical Specialties as well as the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Decatur, Alabama region. His expertise in facial anatomy enables him to select the right treatment and technology to meet each patient’s needs.
