Blepharoplasty – also known as droopy eyelid surgery
The areas around the eyes are among the first to exhibit signs of aging. Many men and women may feel that droopy eyelids and/or bags underneath the eyes may make them look older than they really are. Blepharoplasty, or droopy eyelid surgery, is a common surgical procedure that is performed to reduce the signs of aging and restore a smooth, refreshed appearance. Dr. Ben Light performs both upper and lower eyelid surgery at his Decatur, Alabama facial plastic surgery practice.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Upper blepharoplasty is performed to reduce excess, drooping skin from the upper eyelids. From incisions made in each upper eyelid, Dr. Light will reduce excess skin and will then lift the remaining skin to take years off of the patient’s appearance.
Lower blepharoplasty is performed to correct the appearance of puffiness and bags underneath the eyes. Incisions are made in the natural creases beneath the eyes, from which excess skin and fatty tissue are reduced. In addition, fat may be redistributed to add volume and firmness to areas that appeared to be sunken in.

Blepharoplasty – Droopy Eyelid Surgery is a very popular, straightforward procedure with substantial cosmetic benefits. Patients report having more self-confidence and enjoy a smoother, younger-looking appearance. Those who previously looked tired, angry, or sad can now enjoy appearing more alert, relaxed, and refreshed. In addition, because the drooping skin is reduced that obscured the field of vision, blepharoplasty can make it easier for patients to see.
Recovery from Blepharoplasty
Dr. Light and the staff at Light Facial Plastic Surgery are committed to ensuring that patients heal as quickly and comfortably as possible from surgery. Patients may experience swelling, redness, dry eyes, excessive tearing, or sensitivity to light, but these side effects are temporary and can be alleviated by medication, wearing cold compresses, and getting enough rest after surgery. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities within two weeks.
