Laser hair reduction is an effective, long-lasting solution for unwanted hair on the face and/or body. Dr. Ben Light offers the procedure with the GentleLASE, one of the most advanced laser systems on the market.
The Laser Hair Reduction Procedure
During the procedure, a hand-held device is used to move the laser beam over the targeted treatment area. Treatment is performed when hair is in the anagen or growth phase, and sessions are spaced 4-8 weeks apart to coincide with this stage of the hair growth cycle. Areas that are commonly treated include the upper lip, chin, bikini area, or legs. Multiple areas can be treated in the same procedure. The number of treatments that are necessary depends upon the color, coarseness, and amount of hair to be reduced. Optimal results may take as many as 7 treatments with annual touch ups.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal in Decatur
Are Results Permanent?
Laser hair removal results last much longer than shaving or waxing. The powerful laser destroys the hair follicle. For many hair follicles, this is permanent, and the hair will not return. Come may regenerate, but regrowth is usually much finer and lighter than your natural hair. Many of our patients enjoy near-permanent results from their treatment. To ensure your results last, we recommend an annual touch-up treatment as needed.
Does Laser Hair Removal Work on All Hair Colors?
The laser we use targets melanin, the pigment that makes hair dark. It works best on darker hair colors. Patients with light blonde, red, or gray hair may not experience the stunning results that many patients with darker hair do after laser hair removal. Come in for a consultation and we’ll help you decide if you’re a good candidate for treatment.
What Areas Can Be Treated with Laser Hair Removal in Alabama?
Anywhere you have unwanted hair, laser hair removal can help. We use our GentleLASE laser to remove hair from the face, underarms, back, chest, arms, bikini area, and legs.
Is GentleLASE Safe on Dark Skin Tones?
The GentleLASE laser works best on patients with light to medium skin tones. Since the laser targets melanin, the pigment that colors both hair and skin, some patients with darker skin will not be good candidates for this treatment. We’ll help you decide if this treatment will be safe and effective after a consultation with Dr. Light and our skilled laser hair removal practitioners.
Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?
Most patients tell us that their hair removal treatment is much less painful than waxing and other hair removal options. You’ll feel a quick snap each time the laser is fired, like a rubber band snapping on the skin. Some areas are more sensitive to treat than others.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
You’ll need several treatments to obtain the desired results from laser hair reduction. Most patients require between four to seven treatments, spaced a few weeks apart.
