As one of the premiere facial plastic surgeons in the Southeast, Dr. Ben Light has helped many patients enhance their appearance and self-confidence with nasal contouring surgery or rhinoplasty. Dr. Light has devoted his career to the art and science of facial plastic surgery and he is board-certified by the American Board of Facial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery. His skill, training, and experience enable him to help rhinoplasty patients breathe more easily and enjoy more attractive nasal contours. Dr. Light performs both rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty at his Decatur, Alabama practice.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes between one to three hours to complete. To begin the procedure, Dr. Light will make an incision either on the inside of the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or on the skin between the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). The location of this incision is determined based upon how much access is needed to the underlying nasal bones and tissues. When performed by a skilled surgeon like Dr. Light, the incision that is made in open rhinoplasty leaves a tiny, virtually invisible scar. The incision that is made inside the nostrils during closed rhinoplasty cannot be detected at all. Dr. Light will discuss both techniques with you during a consultation prior to surgery and will select the procedure that is most appropriate for your individual needs and goals. In both techniques, Dr. Light will sculpt the underlying nasal structures to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional results.
There are a number of techniques that can be used to perform a rhinoplasty procedure. No two patients are the same, and we evaluate each person to determine the best technique for the result they want.Dr. Ben Light, M.D.
Rhinoplasty patients enjoy the benefits of attractive nasal contours that are in harmony with other facial features. With his extensive experience and detailed understanding of facial anatomy, Dr. Light is able to change the size and shape of patients’ nasal contours to enhance their confidence and improve their breathing.
Recovery from Rhinoplasty
Dr. Light and his staff will give you detailed instructions to follow during the recovery period so that you heal as quickly and comfortably as possible. It is important to get plenty of rest in the days after surgery and to refrain from any strenuous activities. Some side effects including bruising and swelling may occur in the first couple of days but can be mitigated with cold compresses and prescription pain medicines. Most patients are able to return to work or resume their normal schedules within one week of surgery, but sports and other activities that could cause injuries to the nose should be avoided for up to two months.
